Set Her Free

September 27th

"I do not understand the mystery of grace- only that it meets us where we are and does not leave us where it found us."
- Anne Lamott (quote from Daily Peace by National Geographic)

I'm not really sure what the context of this quote is, but taken in a spiritual sense, I have to say that with all that I've been through recently, if it were not for my faith I don't believe I could have survived. I've come out wiser, sadder, but not bitter.

I just finished reading this book, (see my review on Goodreads). The author was forced from her farm in Zimbabwe under the Mugabe government, and proceeded to rescue horses from abuse and neglect, shuttling them from place to place until they finally came to Mozambique. To me it's another important story that needs to be told of how we have failed our stewardship of this beautiful planet.

Also finished the second book in this combo, Shadows on the Grass.

Read any good books lately?

  1. Goodness, I don't know if I could handle that story. If it's a movie, yup, I can get through it. They're short, but a book? My heart breaks a little too quickly.

I was thinking I hadn't read very many books in the last 6 weeks of publishing haze, and then I went to review the few I had read and realized I'm still crunching one a week. Mostly research. Very informative stuff, but not particularly high recommends.

    1. It was a hard read, and all of that stuff really gets to me, but it just pushes me to want to be a better person and make a difference.

A book a week is a lot more than me! I'm a slow reader though, and juggling work and life, I sometimes would rather watch effortless TV than a read.

    2. I hear you about the TV watching, but I rediscovered my love of books about 10 years ago, and since then, I have to squeeze them in--even if it's only about 10 minutes a day. And then I'll binge read and crunch an entire series in 2 days. And then not read for two weeks. It all balances out.

  2. God did give us stewardship of this world and it's creatures, and yeah, most fail that.

  3. Wow...those are pretty powerful reads! I'm reading Violent Ends, a book about a school shooting told from 17 different perspectives. It's quite riveting!

    1. Is that non-fiction? I read Columbine and it was truly horrifying.
