B is for Books

I'm going to cheat a little in the A to Z challenge since I missed yesterday.  My last post mentioned azalea's, sooo. . ., I'm going to count that as my A post!

Today I'm posting on books- the search for good books that is.  I have been struggling to find a good book minus the gratuitous or disturbing sex scenes.  What happened to the great books that were page turners without them?  Jane Austen anyone?  I don't have to be all girly either, but I enjoy books with culture, that are informative, or humorous, and of course the classics.  The problem with books is you just don't know what you're getting into until you've already read it, and there have been a few scenes that I really wish I hadn't read.  They were sick and sadistic, by the way, NOT romantic.

I do love books- always have, always will.  Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Little Women, and so many others.  I thoroughly enjoyed Marley and Me, and I have learned a lot from journalist written books regarding world affairs.  So my search continues-  any recommendations?

  1. What do you think of Edith Wharton's books? I've read some of her stuff and the sex is usually something implied but not shown, as it is with most classics.

  2. Yes! I loved her books. I saw the movie first (The Age of Innocence) and dragged some poor guy with me to see it. He totally lied about enjoying it but I believed him at the time!

  3. I started reading MG/YA for this very reason. Now YA is so loaded with F-bombs that I don't know what I'm getting there either (haven't run across any with graphic sex scenes). So I've basically reduced my reading to MG. Isn't that a shame?

  5. I know it's so hard to find good books that don't have that in it. That's why I usually won't buy a book until I've read it first. I hate to spend money on things I won't want to reread.

Try MRS. MIKE or THE FAMILY NOBODY WANTED. They're both older but the library should have them. I love the author Thomas Costain, both his novels and his non-fiction were good reads.

  7. Have you tried the series following the Forrest of Hands and Teeth? Easy enough reads without the unwanted content.
